The registration process will have to be with the help of a lawyer. One thing may be noted that in Brunei, business will have to be in partnership with equal number of Bruneian partners, if it is a partnership, that is. The lawyer will take about a thousand Brunei dollars and then basing on the business types, occupation permit or RAMPAIAN will have to be obtained from the concerned municipality or other organization depending on the circumstances. The the expat will have to go to the labor department in order to get the required quota. After the required quota is obtained, the expat will have to leave the country and issue the visa from his home country. Then he can arrive here with his family who will come to Brunei as dependent.
ReplyDeleteThe weather in Brunei is equitorial. Hot during the day and cool in the night with everyday half an hour rain (well almost everyday). But it is bearable and aircon is not an absolute must. The quality of life here is first world standard. Traffic is well managed and the infrastructure is wonderful. The cost of living is also lower than many poor countries.
ReplyDeleteThe business in Brunei can be in development sector. The government is on the concept of giving every Bruneian a livable accommodation and there will be many development projects in the offing. The agricultural sector in Brunei also can be explored and www.bedb.com.bn can be a very useful site for useful information about the prospects in Brunei.
ReplyDeleteEconomic Overview Printer Friendly Version
ReplyDeleteBrunei Darussalam has a small but wealthy economy, which is growing at a slow and steady rate. It has remained stable with an average inflation rate of 1.5% over the past twenty years. The people of Brunei Darussalam enjoy a high quality of life with an estimated US$31,000 per capita income – the second highest in the ASEAN region.
Brunei Darussalam’s economy has been dominated by the oil and gas industry for the past 80 years. Hydrocarbon resources account for over 90% of its export and more than 50% of its Gross Domestic Product. Today, Brunei is the fourth largest oil producer in South East Asia and the ninth largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in the world.
However, there is a rising awareness in the country of depleting natural resources and the subsequent need to diversify the economy away from its over-reliance on oil and gas. Plans for the future include upgrading the labour force, reducing unemployment, strengthening the banking and tourist sectors, and further widening the economic base beyond oil and gas.
Brunei Darussalam imports about 80% of its food requirements, with the government subsidising certain staples such as rice, sugar and milk. The government also subsidises housing, electricity, water and oil as well as providing comprehensive medical services and free education through to university level.
Brunei has no central bank and operates a currency board system with the Brunei Dollar (B$) being pegged to the Singapore Dollar, allowing both currencies to be legally interchangeable in Brunei and Singapore.
Brunei Darussalam has a low tariff regime and no capital gains or personal income tax. Under its Investment Incentives Order 2001 prospective investors will also enjoy a wide range of incentives, including up to a possible 20 years exemption from corporate tax; exemption from import duties taxes on raw material, machinery, equipment, component parts, accessories or building structures and adjustment of capital allowance and losses. EMPLOYMENT AND IMMIGRATION IN BRUNEI
ReplyDeleteAs Brunei Darussalam’s small population currently cannot provide the manpower needed to implement all of its development projects, we continue to open our doors to skilled as well as unskilled foreign workers for work particularly in the construction and service-related sector.
As most of the citizens are employed in the public sector, the Government continues to promote more local employment in the private sector. The push towards diversification and the promotion of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is seen as the answer to the problem of over-dependence on public service employment. This will also drive entrepreneurial development and create job opportunities.
Foreign workers have helped to ease the labour shortage and currently make up over a third of the workforce. Regulations and procedures on recruitment of foreign workers are straight-forward and the Government’s assistance is readily available in securing approval for foreign workers ranging from labourers to executive managers.
Expatriate employment is controlled by a Labour Quota system from the Labour Department and the issuance of employment passes, by the Immigration Department. Each work permit issued to an expatriate is valid for a period of 2 years.
Health screening comprising a blood test and chest x-ray are mandatory as part of the application process for a work permit.
Working conditions are at par with international standards governed by the local labour ordinance. Average wage rates per month for private sector employees vary from B$450-500 for unskilled labour to B$1,000 for qualified secretaries. From BEDB website.

ReplyDeleteThe local partners don't invest anything in general. But they will expect some remuneration for the use of their names in the business. If the investment is big, 100% foreign ownership is possible.
ReplyDeleteThe government is of the opinion to diversify the economy from the oil based revenue sources. There are a lot of incentives for the diversified programs. This can be a good opportunity for people from Bangladesh or any other place in the world to come here and do some business.
ReplyDeleteRecently the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Banglalion WiMAX came to Brunei to see possibilities for WiMAX deployment. Although the licensing authorities have issued two licenses to two Bruneian telecom companies, but they are wailing to roll out the services, presumably to see if LTE technology and the required hardware is coming to the market soon. But by that time the people in Brunei will bear the brunt of NOT getting the services from them.
ReplyDeleteThe buying of an automobile is easy here than most of the countries surrounding this country. the taxes are low and bank financing is easily available. The fuel cost is also world low.
